Blackstone

QUESTION: "Have you hear of a gemstone called Blackstone? I've been looking thru Melody and other sources, but I'm not finding the name. I think it is either an agate or possibly an onyx."

MY ANSWER: "Good question. Yes, I've heard of Blackstone, but what I know about it you could put in a thimble. I've read that it is crushed and reconstituted black onyx, or black obsidian. I've also read that it's black agate, or just a black rock, kind of like a river rock. So... depending on what kind you have in hand, the metaphysical properties would vary. Since it's black, though, it should be good for grounding and survival issues."

Updated Info 11/06/04: Since I couldn't stand not knowing more about it than you could put in a thimble, I just had to do some more checking out. I've even procured several blackstone items just to see what they appear to be. In my opinion, most blackstone seems to be a black jasper. Since black jasper is a relatively new extensive export from India, my guess is that the trade has just picked up the name blackstone and run with it. Because blackstone is generally a jasper, in my experience, it has the metaphysical properties of black jasper.
